Early Head Start

The Southside Early Childhood Center offers comprehensive child development services to families with children birth through age three, including those with disabilities. There are three (3) components offered: center-based, home-based, and First Steps.

Serving 48 children, the center-based component is housed within six (6) separate mobiles. Each mobile of eight infants/toddlers are supervised by two (2) teachers.  In order to assure individualized care and comprehensive early learning experiences, every four students are assigned a primary teacher.

Early Head Start is designed to offer comprehensive services and family support which includes:

 Ø  Education: age appropriate educational activities, early child growth and development, and prenatal support

Ø  Community Services: early intervention, referral services, and  positive child discipline strategies

Ø  Safety & Health: child and family mental health issues, children's dental care needs, and preventive health services

Ø  Nutrition: encourage family-style settings, nutrition education, and accommodate the feeding requirements of each child, including special dietary needs

Ø  Family Engagement: opportunities to serve on our parent committee, health advisory committee, policy council, and other volunteer opportunities

High Scope a child focused curriculum is utilized in the center-based classrooms.  In addition, Parents -As -Teachers Curriculum and Partners for Healthy Babies are implemented in the home-based component. First Steps, Creative Curriculum incorporates best practices that meet the need of every early learner.
